Penland School of Craft

I spent my spring break taking a workshop  at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina.  I studied under Alicia Lomne to learn her techniques in pate de verre glass casting.  (Pate de verre- glass paste- is an ancient technique going back to the Egyptians).  My trip to North Carolina started last Friday with a double rainbow (faint) as I drove through Covington, KY escaping the Friday rush hour traffic.  Strangely, the rainbow seems to lead straight to the giant bottle of Wild Turkey… Hmmm, a sign?

Here are some process pictures of my vessel and bird head that I made this week.

Below are pictures of the hot glass sculpting class that was going on.  Lots of Pilchuck people.

The Plate show that happened at the Penland Gallery tonight- beautiful stuff!
